Who is Dawou Tarraxo?
From Afro-Caribbean childhood vibes to international Tarraxo stages, Dawou’s journey is built on discipline, deep musicality and a profound respect for the people who shaped the movement.
Since his childhood, Dawou has been surrounded by Afro-Caribbean music and culture. He developed an early understanding of rhythm and body expression.
In 2017, he begins his journey at the School of Tropical Latin Dances by Isis Figaro, discovering Kizomba and its related styles under the guidance of the renowned Espérance OUSMANE.
Passionate and disciplined, he trains intensively, attends countless workshops during Parisian festivals, and learns from major international teachers to build his own style – rooted, musical and controlled.
In September 2017, he joins his first Tarraxo workshop with Gwany. One month later, he expands his journey by joining DJ SAÏ SAÏ’s taxi dancer team and begins travelling through many festivals.
From September 2018 to June 2019, he completes his training in a specialised Kizomba school with Anais Millon. In December 2018, he meets Gwany again – founder of Tarraxo – a pivotal encounter that shapes his artistic direction.
Fascinated by the depth of the style, he follows an intensive path: musicality and pedagogy with Laurent Yishù, deep work on Tarraxa and Tarraxo foundations with Kizzy, Gwany & Liliana de Lima. He becomes an essential member of VVK – “Vivez Votre Kizomba” – and takes responsibility for organising the dancer team.
In 2020, he officially becomes a Tarraxo dancer and creates the first Tarraxo dancer team. In 2021, he meets Marta Tarraxo – together they form a strong duo and teach at multiple international events.
Since 2021, Dawou has also been working closely with a DJ who played a major role in helping him shape and refine his remixes. This musical partnership strengthened his understanding of Tarraxo sound design. Today, he continues to expand his artistic collaborations, notably with Yng Cole and Ky Sheny, creating projects that blend Tarraxo identity with contemporary influences.
2021–2023: every Tuesday, he teaches Tarraxo at Tarraxo School Paris.
2022–2023: every Wednesday, he teaches at Tarraxo School London.
2024–2025: he joins Tarraxo School Dubai and continues to share the movement across the Middle East.
In 2022, he travels to Tahiti for an intense 6-hour masterclass and stays 3 weeks – one of his most powerful dance journeys so far. Each country, each festival, each social adds new layers to his dance.
Today, Dawou is an active contributor to the Tarraxo Movement. He spreads it with respect and depth, uniting dancers around a grounded, expressive energy – where we feel first, then move.
